Some say that if my traffic increases than its good because my business will increase in return. Is this statement really true?

This statement in so not true. Doubling traffic doesn't mean that your business is increasing. If your conversion rate increases than it means that your business is increasing.

What if the traffic you targeted isn't much targeted at all. That means that your conversions will be definitely low. And your business will fall. So, focus on getting more conversions than on traffic.
