Does server location really matters even if a premium CDN in used?

If a site is using premium CDN. Then if the location of the server is far away from the catered audience then also will it matter the performance?

CDN keeps images of static pages and serve them locally such as within a country or continent. But if those pages aren't static then they will take the time needed to load from that distant location.

Having server close by to your audience is always a good choice.

Paying extra for a premium CDN and not caring about server location is stupid. Although it depends on your site.
