Is it necessary to have knowldge about Apache?

Many SEO's has suggested me this to learn about apache, on how they work as I am doing my SEO on my own. is it really that necessary?

Well it depends on what you are doing. Making things like 301 redirects in your site will need some knowledge to manage correctly the .htaccess file. Although those codes are pretty obvious can you can get them just by googling. But further customization will need knowledge.
