Google says you should but I frankly don't see any point in it. If you are gathering any user information then its completely irrelevant. And there is also a factor that you can use free letsencrypt or cloudflare certificates but they are very faulty and can stop working any time.

I will not argue with cloudflare certificates but they are problem free 100%, this cannot be said.

If you are not passing sensitive information such credit card details or your house address then I don't see the point here to move to https.

Services like letsencrypt and cloudflare gives a user tons of additional problem. And not to mention they might stop working without any prior notification.

Google is saying that they are trying to make the net a better place. But does this SSL's makes actually safe? The answer is NO. They just encrypt the information they doesn't protect anything.

Unless and untill you're asking for Sensitive Information such as Credit Card, Contact Information, it is not needed. Nevertheless, having a SSL site will boost up your visitors confidence and also increase SERP

My suggestion will be just that get a free SSL from letsencrypt and get over with it.
