Cross linking is the linking between two sites, whether or not they are owned by the same person. Reciprocal link & link exchange are the examples of cross linking.
Cross linking is used by the webmasters to value up their respective sites in the SERP's. Although this method is not in the trend right now as many Search Engines does not like it.
