The list is about 7 years old. And I some emails are untouched since they subscribed. How to operate such list. Its about 500k long.

Work on the latest subscribers such as which are 6 months old.
You said yourself that many emails are untouched so I am guessing probably they are dead anyway.
So, trashing the list will be a good idea. My say if you mail them anyway many people won't just recognize you, it will probably end up going into spam. Is it a single opt-in or double opt-in list?

Why does it matter? Whether its a single opt-in or double opt-in list? Its too much old and has remained without any engagement. The short answer will be that OP should dump the list anyhow.

Yes, keep those which are only 6 months old or so.
