Does author bio links get counted? Or, a text link inside the content is more favorable.

Author's bio link does work. But the site has to be high in authority in order to pass effective link juice.

I agree with you.
Both can work great. And both can do wonders. But high authority sites can give much more from author's bio links than any other. A small blog publishing a post with author's bio link may not pass much link juice. But a text link with relevant anchor text can pass much more.

So, getting a link through author's bio from a non well-known or (not much) authority blog will not be a good idea, right?
