Does 301 redirect loose link value?

Hi,

Yes. 301 does not retain all of the "link juice" it could have, so updating the original link is the best solution.

If you are worried about link juice flow then use canonical rel.

If we update the old link, what about the 404 error? If the website is getting the maximum traffic from the specific URL and you just modified it without proper redirection, it will cost you loss of visitors.

A proper 301 redirect doesn't loose link value at all. Its a misconception.

In many cases. It might happen that its impossible to update the original link.

And if a proper 301 redirect does the work then why not??!!

When you put proper way 301 redirections on your website it retains 90-99% of traffic. So it can't not lose traffic from old to the new website but it takes some time to properly work in running schedule.

In order to try to make as explicit as possible the SEO test that we carried out, it is useful to return to some basics or tests previously carried out.

First, remember that when two links in a page A, points to a page B, only the value of the anchor of the first link is transmitted by Google. Page B will therefore be positioned on the text of the anchor of the first link, not the second.

We also know that if the first link is in nofollow, none of the links transmit its value .
These findings are always accessible, explained and verifiable on this SEO test on the anchors of links .
