Is really SEO necessary for Ecommerce sites in 2018. Or, should I focus on paid marketing ads?

SEO is good for the long run. You will never get the results overnight. It may take months or even years for you to see actually changes. But that is not a wise business strategy so I will say that you focus on both SEO and paid advertisings.

Go for paid marketing first. If want to do effective SEO for your eCommerce site then certainly you will need money.

Work on your SEO steadily but not expect much at the time being. Along with it work on running ad campaigns. Don't start with big budgets, start small then go on increasing it while reviewing your ROI.
