Don't just target any keyword or phrase you need to. But target if you can fulfill the query of the user. Understand the actual phrase meaning and present your content according to it.

Your keyword will never loose its importance no matter how short or long it is, as long as you put the right information in a sufficient way in it. So, it can meet the need of the audience.

Its quite a wise opinion there Frank.

People will always need information whether they get from an exact match keyword or something similar. Relevant keyword with relevant content will always rank better.
