There are many meta tags and html-tags and obviously they don't all influence the search result. For example the html cookie tag doesn't have any influence on your ranking with the search engines but the title of your page, the keywords and the description meta tag are very important. Meta tag is basically a title tag that also contains the focus keyword. Once the meta tag has been finalized and article is been published than it is not good to change it later. So, be careful when deciding the meta tag of your article.

You can add metadata to your web pages by placing <meta> tags inside the header of the document which is represented by <head> and </head> tags. A meta tag can have following attributes in addition to core attributes

Important meta tags are title tag, meta keywords attribute, meta description and meta robots attribute.
